Greenland is an autonomous country with a population just under 60,000. Once a colony of Denmark, it remains part of Danish kingdom in a relationship similar to Scotland’s within the UK – although its devolved government has a lot more authority than Scotland’s. Denmark belongs to the European Union but in 1982 Greenland voted in a referendum to leave and two years later, it did. Why did Greenland opt out and what are the implications for Brexit?
