Beskrivelse af impact
The GEMINI project, funded by the European Commission under the CERV-2022-GE call, aims to tackle gender-based stereotypes and promote gender equality through media investigation and training, focusing on TV series and their impact on young adults. The project involves multiple beneficiaries from Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Romania, Ireland, Bulgaria, and Malta, with LINK CAMPUS UNIVERSITY (LCU) as the coordinator.Impact Description
The GEMINI project is designed to create a significant impact on gender equality by leveraging the power of media, particularly TV series, to challenge and change gender stereotypes. The project targets high school students and teachers across different European socio-cultural areas, aiming to raise awareness and foster positive attitudes towards gender equality.
Short-term Impact
- Awareness and Education: By investigating the representation of gender identities in TV series and understanding how these representations affect young adults, GEMINI will enhance the analytical, relational, and communication skills of students and teachers. The development of an educational toolkit and its piloting in schools will provide practical resources to address gender stereotypes.
- Engagement and Participation: The project will actively involve young adults in creating and disseminating positive gender equality messages through a screenwriting contest, encouraging them to become ambassadors of gender equality.
Medium-term Impact
- Policy and Practice: GEMINI will provide guidelines and policy recommendations to EU and national institutions, as well as broadcasters and streaming platforms, to promote gender-sensitive content. This will help integrate gender equality into media production and educational curricula.
- Sustainability: The establishment of a permanent Observatory on Gender Equality and Diversity will ensure the long-term monitoring and promotion of gender equality in media narratives.
Long-term Impact
- Cultural Shift: By fostering a gender equality-oriented culture among young adults and educators, GEMINI aims to create a lasting change in societal attitudes towards gender roles and identities. The project's comprehensive approach, combining research, education, and policy-making, will contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
Overall, GEMINI's multi-faceted strategy will not only address immediate educational needs but also pave the way for systemic changes in how gender equality is perceived and promoted across Europe.
