The Culture and Consumption research group is engaged in research into the acquisition, appropriation and appreciation of tangible goods as well as intangible services, performances, experiences, places and information. We firmly position consumption as an integrated part of broader economic, social and cultural life, and therefore also as academically linked to broader research fields and academic traditions in sociology, anthropology, human geography, cultural and policy studies as well as market research. The group’s research responds to current rapid transformations of central aspects in social life, including:

  • Links between international developments (i.e. related to technology, consumer trends, societal changes) and local as well as national consumption issues.
  • Impacts of digitalization, new market relations and infrastructures.
  • Issues related to the politics of consumption, particularly the ways in which the distribution of power influences consumption.
