SARC aims to develop sustainable built environments that enrich human life.


SARC researches the design of sustainable architecture while integrating concerns for environment, climate, energy and materials with the purpose of strengthening the quality of human life.


SARC regards integrated design as a cornerstone in research, education and practice and aims to fully integrate engineering aspects in architectural approaches. SARC is critical towards the division of technical and aesthetical mindsets in the building practice and researches to integrate all relevant aspects of building also in early design phases. SARC works inter-disciplinary often with mixed methods. 

SARC applies a human-centered approach to architecture with the aim of enhancing health and quality of life in built environments. SARC researches human use and psychophysiological impacts of buildings while addressing multi-sensuous qualities moving science to the field of aesthetics. SARC addresses human beings as capable agents in sustainable development and researches user-centered design and building operation.

SARC works environmentally and regards climate and urban context as main drivers of building design. SARC researches climate mitigation and adaption of build environments; design of micro climates and exergy conditions and acknowledges that architectural integration of water and greenery in dense urban space will improve the city as human and natural environment.

SARC aims for architecture that is ambitious concerning energy efficiency and for indoor environments enriched by the changing forces of light and climate. SARC researches to develop architecture as a passive means of comfortable indoor environments, sustainable human activity and fossil free building operation. SARC researches to integrate active energy systems in the architectural approach and outcome.

SARC regards building as a long-term dynamic flow of material resource. SARC researches life cycle-oriented tactics of applying materials and components to architecture and to make the constructions support passive strategies of energy and climate meeting sustainable certification standards. SARC researches environmental tectonics to develop tactile, acoustic and visual qualities of architecture.
