Forskningsprofil

I am a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor working in the Environmental Microbiology section, and head of the Microbiomes for Sustainability and Restoration group. My interests centre on the relationship of bacteria and archaea to the natural environment, and ways microorganisms are affected by or can help mitigate human impact. The overall goal of my group is to generate and use the knowledge of these organisms to solve environmental problems related to carbon footprints, green energy and climate change, and to help facilitate ecosystem restoration efforts.    

I am currently involved in Microflora Danica, investigating biogeochemical cycles through the bacteria and archaea of Denmark, and MicroFungi. The focuses of my postdoc were recovering high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes of wastewater and anaerobic digester bacteria and archaea, and investigating the metabolic potential and phylogeny of key functional groups. 

I conducted my PhD at the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics (ACE) under the supervision of Prof. Gene Tyson and Dr. Ben Woodcroft and was part of an international team exploring the microbes in thawing permafrost. I received my Honours degree at ACE under the supervision of Prof. Phil Hugenholtz.
