Forskningsprofil

Fenella Billing is an Associate Professor in International Law and Human Rights at Aalborg University, where she teaches EU Law (EU-ret) and Fundamental Human Rights (Grundrettigheder), as well as in international law and international human rights law. Fenella is originally from Australia, where she qualified and worked in the area of criminal law. Since completing a PhD on the right to silence in transnational criminal proceedings, Fenella's research has focused on transnational law enforcement and human rights, for example, on issues related to hybrid threats, the right to silence and the principle of mutual trust in EU law. She has researched extensively in the intersection between human rights and the law of the sea, including human security at sea, migrant smuggling and maritime migration. Her research interests also include state responsibility, state's due diligence obligations in international law and human rights law, collective responsibility and solidarity.
