My background is nursing, and I work as a researcher at Aalborg University Hospital, Aalborg University and Aarhus University. I have two main areas of research. Research in Nursing in time-limited encounters and Reprocessing of sterilizable medical equipment.

The first area is my research that describes what high-quality nursing care in time-limited encounters includes and how it can be delivered. This work supports the importance of focusing on the patient and building rapport through communication and the use of the senses. Furthermore, it emphasizes how the starting point of any relation should always be the expectations and needs of the individual patient and knowledge of how nursing care is contextually bound.

My research focus has been expanded using the Fundamentals of Care, FoC framework. The FoC framework has been introduced worldwide as a response to the challenges that nurses are facing when trying to meet patients’ fundamental care needs while simultaneously providing safe, effective, and consistent nursing care in today’s advanced healthcare settings.

The second area is research within the field of reprocessing medical equipment, where I, in an interdisciplinary collaboration across clinics and departments at Aalborg University Hospital, The National Centre for Infection Control (CEI, SSI), and Danish Technological Institute, Aarhus, have developed the research program ‘Sterile Science’.

The overall aim of the research program is to develop innovative strategies and new evidence on reprocessing of sterilizable medical equipment to improve quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in clinical practice. Furthermore, the program aims to document the safety of the developed strategies and innovations and ensure their implementation in clinical practice.

In 2026, we initiated a PhD study within this research program, where I serve as the main supervisor. The PhD student is enrolled in the programme Health Care, Health Promotion and Organizations at Aalborg University. The study is conducted in an international collaboration with partners from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, and aims to answer the research question: Can ultrasonic cleaning increase patient safety and value preservation of surgical instruments?
