Clinical care of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) has been the center of Dr. Larsen’s research with the establishment of the clinical database, GASTROBIO, during her PhD, as a starting point.

As a chief physician at the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Aalborg University Hospital, she cares for 3,500 patients with IBD at the outpatient clinic. She is heading the innovative ”On demand IBD outpatient clinic” initiative launched by the Head of Department to innovate the care for patients with IBD to ensure optimal use of resources and to see patients when they need it instead of routinely.

As partner in PREDICT, Dr. Larsen heads the North Denmark IBD cohort (NorDIBD) with granular information on all patients with IBD in the Region. Dr. Larsen is also in charge of the collection of blood- and stool samples for the comprehensive OMICs study conducted within the NorDIBD cohort.

In 2023, Dr. Larsen became the ECCO national representative for the Danish Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (DSGH). She has been chair of the Danish national quality database, DANIBD, since 2020, and a member of the steering committee of the Danish National IBD networking meeting under the IBD interest group in DSGH. From 2022-2024 she was the coordinator of the updating of the Danish guideline for Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis, for which she was appointed by DSGH.

Undervisningsprofil

Dr. Larsen was appointed Associate Professor at Aalborg University in 2020, and since then she has taught bedside and clinical cases to all Master’s Students in Medicine during their fourth year at the hospital, she has lectured on Iron Deficiency, and she has assessed and co-written questions for exams.

Ph.d.-vejledning

As partner in PREDICT, Dr. Larsen supervises or co-supervises four PhD students, of whom one has now obtained the PhD degree.

Dr. Larsen has acted on the assessment committees of 6 PhD dissertations, two as chair and four as an external opponent.
