Dr. Hansen is a medical doctor, who has worked both in general practice and at the Department of Clinical Microbiology. For almost two decades she has been working as a full-time researcher/teacher - and her research interests include optimising GP's management of patients with acute respiratory tract infections in general practice and providing the evidence for benefits and harms of using antibiotics.

Malene Plejdrup Hansen is the lead of a research team at Center for General Practice at Aalborg University, Denmark – focusing on management of infectious diseases in general practice (//www.almenmedicin.aau.dk/forskning/infektioner-og-antibiotikabehandling ).
Since 2019 she has been the chair of General practice Research on Infections Network (GRIN), a group of internationally well renowned researchers with a special interest in optimising management of infections in primary care. GRIN is one of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Europe’s special interest groups.
