My research focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and organization of care for patients with cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions using clinical epidemiology and health services research. I am particularly interested in how healthcare systems identify, diagnose, and manage patients across the entire care pathway, and how epidemiological evidence can inform clinical practice and the organization of care.

My current research focuses primarily on peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This work addresses broader questions related to early diagnosis, multimorbidity, implementation of evidence-based care, healthcare inequalities, and organization of care across primary and secondary healthcare.

My research is based primarily on nationwide Danish healthcare registries, electronic health records, and linked clinical and administrative data. Observational epidemiology forms the foundation of my research. Increasingly, I combine epidemiological and qualitative approaches to investigate patient experiences, clinical decision-making, and the organizational factors that influence implementation of evidence-based care in routine practice.

I collaborate closely with clinicians, general practitioners, patients, and national and international research partners. In addition to research, I contribute to teaching and supervision, peer review, and guideline development.

Undervisningsprofil

My teaching is primarily based within the medical program at Aalborg University and postgraduate courses in clinical epidemiology and epidemiological methods. I supervise master's and PhD students and teach clinical epidemiology, causal inference, observational research methods, and critical appraisal of medical evidence.

My teaching is closely integrated with my research and emphasizes methodological rigor, critical thinking, and the application of epidemiological methods to clinically relevant questions.
