My research focuses on improving care for individuals with inflammatory pancreatic diseases (pancreatitis). The goal is to reduce the burden of key complications such as chronic pain and pancreatogenic diabetes, and to develop disease-modifying therapies that can prevent progression to end-stage pancreatic dysfunction.

Our research is rooted in clinical science, combining early-phase randomised controlled trials, prospective cohort studies, and population-based epidemiology. We conduct intervention studies in well-characterised patient populations, often targeting early disease stages to evaluate treatments that may alter disease progression. In parallel, we leverage national health registries and biobank-linked datasets to study long-term outcomes, disease trajectories, and risk factors in real-world populations.

This dual approach - integrating clinical trials and large-scale epidemiology - enables us to generate evidence that is both mechanistically informative and clinically relevant. We also maintain deep-phenotyped clinical cohorts that support biomarker research, patient stratification, and longitudinal outcome assessment. Our work is inherently multidisciplinary, drawing on expertise across gastroenterology, endocrinology, imaging, immunology and epidemiology.

Through national and international collaborations, I have established an independent research program with a strong publication record and a clear translational focus. Our team is now advancing to early-phase clinical trials evaluating novel therapies with the potential to change current paradigms in the management of pancreatitis.
