Forskningsprofil
My personal aim is to advance the treatment of inflammatory diseases, focusing on the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The inflammatory diseases remain poorly understood, limiting the development of treatments and diagnostics. Through my research, I aim to bridge this knowledge-gap and identify disease-specific pathways which can serve as biological targets for treatment, while also increasing our fundamental understanding of the diseases.
My primary biological focus is the innate immune system, particularly the development in newborns and the role of neutrophil granulocytes during inflammatory diseases. I perform comprehensive systems biology (OMICS) characterization of clinical samples from patients and cellular assays, using proteomics, combined with advanced microscopy, bioinformatics, and machine learning/AI.
My efforts aim to extract biological insights, to understand the underlying biology of the pathologies, and ultimately translate this to meaningful advances in treatment options and patient care.
Undervisningsprofil
I teach on all academic levels at the university, from 1st semester to PhD level. PBL is a central element in all my teaching activities, and I have attended a number of PBL- andcase-based workshops.
