My research focuses on cancer immunotherapy with the aim to prime dendritic cells for an increased treatment efficacy. Dendritic cells are pivotal in mediating an effective immune response against cancer by translating the tumor antigens to an activation signal for the adaptive immune system. My research mainly focuses on two strategies of optimizing dendritic cell function against cancer, namely induction of immunogenic cell death of cancer cells and priming the STING pathway of dendritic cells.
STING priming in DCs holds the potential to increase the ability of dendritic cells to create a strong cytotoxic T cell response targeted the cancer cells.
Cancers are specialized in hiding from the immune system, and therefore, many types of therapy does not cure patients due to the immunosuppression induced by the cancer. Induction of immunogenic cell death of cancer cells is essential for the dendritic cells to detect and react properly to the cancer cells.
Undervisningsprofil
I teach lectures, case, and laboratory courses in microbiology and immunology at the Medicine and Medicine with Industrial Specialization studies. I also do supervision of project groups at 6th, 7th and 8th semester, and master's thesis.
