Beskrivelse

The scientific focus of the activities is to explore the potentials at the crossing point
between American pragmatism and practice theory to develop social science
research and research in the humanities to better understand practical activity
conceptually and theoretically, and to explore methodological research strategies
for studying human activity as it unfolds in everyday practical settings. The
research area comprises central topics of social theorizing: social ontology, agency,
structure, individualism vs. holism, explanatory strategies of activity, normativity,
(moral) accountability, methodology and more.
An important focus of the research is the exploration and potential development of
pragmatism and practice theory. Although each of these intellectual traditions have
been influential in contemporary social science research, their interrelatedness,
commonalities and points of difference have remained relatively unexplored. By
bringing pragmatism and practice theory in dialogue over the nature of action and
human activity the network aims to advance social theory within the social sciences
and humanities and provide new theoretical and methodological frameworks for the
social theorizing – and, eventually, empirical research.
