DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRA-TION OF A MODULAR ZERO-EMISSION PROPUL-SION SYSTEM FOR MARITIME TRANSPORTATION

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

The electrification of maritime transport, although an area of high strategic importance for Denmark and EU, is still in its infancy. Despite recent advances in alternative fuels and technologies and the creation of strong regulatory frameworks to incentivize them, there is a lack of optimally sized, high performing and safe technologies which can provide the best financial returns. Moreover, the lack of flexible and modular vessels designs requires purposebuilt vessels for real life demonstrations, making the testing of alternatives highly costly, risky and lengthy. In this project we aim at making a breakthrough in maritime transportation by introducing a novel catamaran design that can be equipped with different propulsion technologies. We will validate the performance of hydrogen fuel cells and lithium batteries in real life conditions and present our vessels as a test bed for future developments in this field. Zero-emission catamarans for offshore operations and passenger trans-portation are highly marketable, as they are highly efficient energetically and can potentially save 1 106 800 tons of CO2 per year, contributing to the decarbonization of the maritime industry.
