ERIG

ESYS plc (UK) in partnership with COWI, FAF Munich, FDC, University
of Nottingham, ISMB, Politecnico di Torino, The 425 Company, IfEN,
Danish GPS Centre Aalborg University, University of Catalonia,
University of Porto, ENAC and UWMO (the ERIG team) has formed a team
to collectively represent the best combination of expertise with
which to address the requirements presented in the Galileo Joint
Undertaking call: Education, Research and Innovation in the field of
GNSS

The consortium is the result of a comprehensive selection process
performed through the analysis of many notifications of interest
received from EU and non EU companies and organisations already
involved in the Galileo programme.

The study described in this proposal is being undertaken by a team
which provides a combination of understanding and expertise across
the three domains of education, research, and innovation and
technology transfer. Furthermore the team has the capability to
undertake a thorough analysis of the current state of each domain in
Europe and the rest of the world, compare it with other technologies
and be able to provide appropriate recommendations that take into
account the establishment of the Galileo Concession.

The main activities to be performed during the project require
expertise in several domains, which include: education,
technological developments, research and development, technology
transfer, international activities as well as promotion and
networking.

The key strengths of this unique team are based upon a combination
of expertise, geographic distribution and types of organisation, and
have been carefully selected to provide the best representation of
skills, contacts, knowledge and expertise available to undertake
this project. The team is comprised of all the significant
universities in Europe that are involved in satellite navigation.
Furthermore the contributors from industry include those that
represent small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) that also have
experience and expertise in Galileo as well as the broader fields of
GNSS and Navigation. In some cases this expertise may be technology
and/or application focused but in others it is market research,
awareness and understanding oriented. Members of this team are
involved in the processes of technology transfer through their own
activities. Thus the team are able to contribute their own
experiences and first hand knowledge of the issues facing education,
research and innovation and technology transfer in Navigation, GNSS
and Galileo. Furthermore, the university team members have excellent
contacts with their national space agencies and corresponding
technology transfer departments. Most of the key personnel are
involved as national representatives in a range of Galileo committee
on national as well as European level.

The consortium recognises that the work to be undertaken in this
project will be conducted in parallel with the establishment of the
Galileo Concession. The expertise of the ERIG team and their
familiarity with the development of the Galileo programme, will
enable them to be supportive and interactive with the ongoing
requirements of the new organisations being established (i.e. the
GNSS Supervisory Authority and the Galileo Operating Company).
