    DIR Center research project in collaboration with researchers from Third World Forum, Senegal, Carleton, Newcastle, Frankfurt am Main, Calcutta, Hallym, Cornell etc. The objective was to establish a new conceptual framework in a critical development sociology perspective and applying it to various empirical analyses: * Inequality in the world system * The growing dominance of the market over human beings * The impact of the rolling back of the welfare state in the North and state funding of social sectors in the South * The growing hegemony of financial capital * Different types of resistances against the neoliberal mode of globalization. Results have been published with the same title by Routledge in 2000 edited by Johannes Schmidt and Jacques Hersh Danida and SSF supported
