    Beskrivelse

The project is concerned with fundamental physics of semiconductor quantum dots (QD's) and comprises experimental studies of nonlinear optical interactions in QD's complemented with their linear optical (photoluminescence) and topographical (by scanning probe microscopies) characterizations. These experiments would allow us to * clarify physical mechanisms underlying nonlinear optics of QD's * study symmetry properties and energy levels of QD's * deduce strain distributions associated with QD's * determine true electronic structures of QD's. Finally, it is intended to explore new architectures of QD's ensembles (e.g. coupled QD's and photonic band gap structures) as well as various applications of QD's, such as information processing (quantum logic) and radiation control (generation, amplification and switching). The project is supported by the Danish Natural Science Research Council (contracts 9901971 and 9903131). (Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi, Brian Vohnsen, Kjeld Pedersen)
