How does having children affect the quality of life of adults in Denmark

Beskrivelse

The project explores how having children affect the quality of life of adults in Denmark.

From an evolutionary point of view, one must assume that having children has a positive impact on the quality of life of the parents. Otherwise, one would stop reproducing after the first child. Alternatively, having children has no effect at all on quality of life, neither positive nor negative.

Is this the case in a modern society like Denmark where having children by no means is a necessity and it is easy to avoid? On the contrary, not having children has economic and career advantages. It also provides freedom of self-realization in other ways.

The main research question is: Does having children correlate with measures of quality of life? Quality of life is operationalized using the WHOQOL-BREF.
