LOCOMUTIVE: Local Cooperative Multi-Market for Value-Stacking and Managing Symbiosis in Eco-Industrial Clusters

The LOCOMUTIVE project has a primary objective of introducing a new approach to facilitate internal trading of multiple value streams among industries within a localized area. The project aims to pave the way for this by conducting an extensive review of state-of-the-art methods for local energy trading, considering structural aspects, clearing approaches, and practical considerations. The review will sort existing approaches based on their applicability for industrial clusters, while identifying their advantages and disadvantages.
In addition, the project proposes a new industry-driven local market that takes into account the market structure, trading schemes relevant to eco-industrial players, and interactions with external markets. Feasibility and competitiveness assessments will complement the studies, providing market players (i.e., participating industries) with a transparent and fair local market design. This design aims to encourage the exchange of multiple value streams, such as heat and pyrolysis gases, internally.
Furthermore, the project addresses challenges related to dispatch models and optimization problems faced by networked industries. This involves presenting a model to optimize profit-driven industries, evaluating the impact of external market outputs and different industrial behaviors on the internal market's output, profit, and truthful bidding control. A practical method for achieving equilibrium among market players is also proposed.
Finally, the models proposed in this project will be validated through a series of case studies conducted in GreenLab. The effectiveness of the proposed multi-market solutions will be compared against conventional approaches, and their feasibility in practice will be tested and verified using digital simulation tools.
