Beskrivelse
Molecular nanomagnets are interesting in the field of molecular electronics, spintronics and nanomagnetism, where they will play a key role in future quantum materials. We will study the molecules on surfaces with a Low-Temperature (5 K) Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM), by imaging with atomic resolution, and especially via tunneling spectroscopy to understand the electronic properties. Magnetic excitations can be induced by applying a magnetic field, and by using magnetic tips, it will also be possible to perform spin-polarized tunneling experiments to map magnetic properties of the individual molecules. Knowledge of the magnetic properties of the crystalline (bulk) phase molecular systems is determined via inelastic neutron scattering and the interaction of thin films of the magnetic molecules with magnetic surfaces is investigated by small angle neutron scattering and reflectometry. These experiments are expected to be done by/with collaborators in the ESS-Lighthouse in Magnetism and Quantum Materials (Q-mat).
