Multi-timescale Modeling of Metro Power Supply System



Metro is an important part of the modern urban mass transit system, whereas electricity is the major source to power modern metros. However, the existing methodology and sizing rules does not consider the potential interaction between vehicle and the power supply. It can result in a low energy efficiency, which is caused by wasting of regenerative braking energy, oversizing of equipment, etc.

In this project, new design tools for the traction power supply will be developed to support different design and planning process of a metro system. Accurate modeling and task-based model-reduction methodology will be developed. The overall goal is to support the efficiency optimization of the whole system, which is expected to result in a significant energy saving at system-level.
