PSO 2003 4805 Channel formation in Boilers



The objective of the project is to investigate and potentially suggest means of eliminating channel formation in cofired boilers by a combination of experimental measurements and numerical modeling. Field experience supported by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling indicates that channeling effects frequently exist in many commercial boilers because of incomplete mixing. As an example, burner imbalances can be detected from measurements in the convection pass. Poor mixing during cofiring may cause parts of the superheaters to experience a biomass share significantly higher than the average for the boiler. This is critical as mixing of the ash flows is essential to limit ash deposition and corrosion problems for example in straw-coal cofiring. Detailed particle sampling and gas phase species and temperature measurements will be made in this project and compared to CFD model predictions. Based on measurements and modeling results changes to design or operation will be suggested and potentially demonstrated. Additionally, the ash transformation and particle reactivity models are to be calibrated and validated against data collected in project 2003-4766. Tilknyttede personer: Søren K.
