PSO 2003 4806 Optimization of Low-NOx Burner for Cofiring

The objective of the project is to investigate and optimize the NOx-reduction potential during cofiring with biomass. Cofiring introduces a fuel that is different from the primary fuel (often coal) physically as well as chemically. Nitrogen release rates and speciation (HCN/NH3) will be investigated under realistic conditions. The interaction between the primary fuel and biomass in terms of NOx formation is studied in a laboratory-scale swirl burner at different biomass shares, biomass types, swirl numbers, and stoichiometries. Based in part on the experimental data, two types of models are developed; one based on detailed chemistry and ideal reactor networks, and one based on detailed fluid mechanics and simplified chemistry. The interaction between detailed experimental data, chemical and fluid mechanical models is anticipated to offer the best achieveable understanding of NOx formation. Predictions will be made for the full-scale cofired facility SSV4 and compared to measurements from the facility. Tilknyttede personer: Søren K.
