Abstract

With the increase in the scale of onshore wind farms, wake effect is more and more significant in energy losses of wind farms. The siting selection of onshore wind farm usually takes topographical conditions into consideration, which generally include the topographic amplitude and the slope. However, the energy production estimation for onshore wind farm with different topographic amplitude considering wake effect would be complicated. In this paper, a new method for estimating the energy production of onshore wind farm with different topographic heights is proposed. The Jensen model is selected as the base and the wind shear effect is also taken into consideration to develop a stereoscopic wake model to calculate the energy production for different topographic amplitudes and slopes. The cases demonstrate that the proposed 3D model is suitable in estimating the wind energy. The framework can be adopted to wind turbines layout optimization for onshore wind farm with different topographic heights.
