Abstract

The Global Innovation Management (GIM) MSc programme is a 2 year, 120 ECTS, joint degree programme delivered and awarded by the consortium of the University of Strathclyde (UofS) in Scotland, Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark and Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Germany.

The educational aim of the programme is to produce graduates with an expanded perspective of innovation management to meet the needs of global industry. In particular this is to be achieved through a curriculum that integrates design based modules with progressive innovation and technology management education.

The collaboration brings depth and breadth to the innovation curriculum, and the student experience, through student mobility and the complementary expertise of partners. However, for higher education institutions to effectively collaborate at both administrative and academic levels, a number of new challenges must be overcome.

This paper reflects on specific challenges met during development of the GIM programme and presents a programme model addressing these. The model is presented as transferable to other consortia and as basis for a set of tentative principles for joint programme development with particular relevance to innovative product and service development curricula.
