Abstract

This paper presents an interleaved high voltage gain dc-dc converter for renewable energy sources. The proposed converter can provide a very high step-up voltage gain by utilizing dual coupled inductors and voltage multiplier cells. The secondary windings of the coupled inductors are employed to provide the interleaved energy storage in the output side. The voltage and current stress across the power semiconductor devices are reduced. Then the input current ripple is decreased due to the interleaved dc-dc converter in the primary side. In addition, this topology can be operated without an extreme duty cycle or a high turns ratio, and the ON-state resistance ripple is mitigated. The leakage energy is recycled, and the reverse recovery problem of the diodes is alleviated. Furthermore, the performance comparison between the proposed converter and other topologies are explored. The operation principle, mathematical derivations, simulation verifications, and experimental results are introduced. An input of 32-V to an output of 900-V is tested and simulated by using PLECS. Finally, a 450 W hardware prototype is tested to verify the design and the theory.
