Abstract
The shortage of global leaders has been well-documented from the mid-1990s to the present; in recent years the scarcity has caused companies to cut back on strategic initiatives. Neither business schools nor firms are doing an adequate job of preparing global leaders. Universities face several barriers to developing effective courses in this field: a) a limited cadre of experienced global leadership professors; b) few global leadership textbooks; c) lack of training programs for professors newly tasked with teaching global leadership; and d) absence of a virtual community of practice to seek and share teaching knowledge.
To share valuable teaching knowledge, we recruited highly experienced
professors and global leadership practitioners to share their best practices in small breakout groups, covering various pedagogical methods described in written handouts. The four goals of these group discussions are to: 1) provide attendees with an up-to-date conceptual overview of the global leadership development literature; 2) allow attendees to learn about best practices developed by expert teachers and trainers; 3) enable attendees to share their own teaching ideas and ideas for applying the best practices in their own settings; and 4) develop an online global leadership teaching network.
