Abstract

During wave slamming, caisson movement may occur as a combination of sliding along the caisson–foundation interface and local failure in the foundation and seabed. The paper presents a comparison between different techniques applied to the analysis of this movement. Thus, a finite-difference analysis has been performed by means of the commercial code FLAC. Similarly, ABAQUS has been employed for finiteelement analyses based on linear as well as quadratic spatial interpolations, assuming fully drained conditions and utilizing an elastic–plastic model for the rubble foundation and the seabed. The results of the numerical codes are compared to an analytical solution in which the deformation of the subsoil has been disregarded.
