Abstract

There is a critical need for effective data management in Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) practices. This study emphasizes the challenges
posed by isolated datasets and the lack of standardized sharing
protocols. It underscores the importance of FAIR data principles—
Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-usable—and the
collective responsibility in implementing these within the LCA
domain. The research reviews existing infrastructure for data sharing
such as ISO standards, Data Management Plans, and data
repositories to understand their role in supporting FAIR data sharing.
Finally the study introduces a systematic workflow for FAIR data
sharing, exemplified by its application in the Horizon Europe
ALIGNED project.
