Abstract
Purpose: The paper explores how the development of new technology-based products can be evolved simultaneously with a redesign of the business model configurations through a game-based method.
Design/methodology/approach: The paper is a game-based case study, including 130 participants from 20 companies and relevant business stakeholders. The game ‘Cards for IoT’ is the method and tool presented in this paper and applied across the eight game sessions that constitute the case study.
Findings: The case study introduces a specific tool, Cards for IoT, for businesses to explore new technology-based products through the combination of IoT technologies and business model configurations. The game shows that there is valid potential in working with the cross-section between BMC and IoT technologies in turn of technology innovation.
Originality: The paper proposes a novel game for exploring new technology-based products combined with the reconfiguration of value creation in the business models. The game also provides an opportunity for players to expand their knowledge of terminology and potentials surrounding business model configurations and IoT technologies.Originalsprog | Engelsk |
