Abstract

The internationalization of multinational corporations (MNCs) in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has been intensifying since the start of transition. One of the most important modes of penetrating the CEE market has been foreign direct investment (FDI). The supply of FDI has been mainly provided by Western European MNCs, Germany being the major player, and MNCs from the USA (Culpan and Kumar, 1994; Jain and Tucker, 1994; Peng, 2000; Marinov and Marinova, 2001).
