Abstract

As more and more energy sources are connected to the power system by power electronics, the total inertia and damping decrease largely, which may be harmful in order to ensure a stable operation of the power system. The virtual synchronous generator is a promsing solution to overcome these problems, which can provide the virtual inertia just like a synchronous generator. This paper focuses on the impact of the voltage source converter with the virtual synchronous generator on the inertia support of the power system. The equivalent inertia, damping and synchronization coefficients under the load variations are derived by using small-signal model. Moreover, the influence of control and system parameters on stability of the power system is comprehensively investigated. Finally, the correctness of the analysis is verified in a 10 kW experimental prototype.
