Abstract

In this communication, the author wishes to correct a rough estimate and a figure which could mislead the readers. Regrettably, on page 97 in the original article appears an incorrect number, i.e. in the sentence: “In total, there is around 450 million m3 of water in the various Danish district heating systems.” The correct number is approx. 1 billion liters of water. Consequently, the rough estimate of the potential storage capacity of the grid resulting in a thermal storage capacity of 2600 GWh is not correct. The correct number is approx. 5 GWh. As a result, the author wishes to communicate the following correct version of Fig. 5: Fig. 5. Overview of existing energy storage capacities in Denmark.[Figure presented] The new number in Fig. 5 sums up the 5 GWh mentioned above with the following numbers specified in the article: 20 GWh in consumer-owned hot water tanks, 50 GWh in district heating steel tanks and approx. 14 GWh in seasonal thermal storage for solar power. The incorrect number is only related to Fig. 5 and does not influence any of the other calculations or diagrams. The author would like to apologies for any inconvenience caused.
