Abstract
This paper proposes a data mining method to automatically determine manufacturing capabilities of work centers in a company. The method utilizes data from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on product components, their characteristics, and routings. The method outputs a list of work centers and their capabilities expressed in terms of product characteristics. This information can be used to identify how new products can be manufactured using existing equipment or how existing equipment can be used for increased production capacity. The paper presents a case study where the method was developed and validated with a large industrial manufacturer. The company experts found the method valuable for gaining an overview of manufacturing capabilities and opportunities for equipment reuse.
