Abstract
This article examines the trope of the Beautiful Dead White Girl and proposes that while white victims are often prioritized over other victims, this privileging is often accompanied by slut-shaming and victim-blaming. The article uses as an example of the problematic trope Esquire's 1990 crowning of Laura Palmer, the fictional Beautiful Dead White Girl from David Lynch and Mark Frost's cult TV series Twin Peaks, as 'Woman of the Year."
