The Tectonic Practice: In the transition from the predigital to the digital era

The thesis investigates tectonics as a contemporary architectural practice and how changes in the building industry create challenges to this manner of creating architecture. The challenge focused on is the specialization in the building industry between architects and engineering consultants which has the consequence that it is difficult to create architecture where the technical concerns are an inherent part of the architectural expression. The aim of the thesis is to discuss the role of digital tools in overcoming the distance between the professional specializations and thereby support a tectonic practice. The project develops a framework to understand the role of digital tools in the tectonic practice from and discusses how and in which areas the tectonic practice could become supported by digital tools.
