Abstract

The density development during erosion experiments was investigated. The calculation of the erosion rate requires the knowledge of the density profile with respect to the consolidation time(Parchure, 1984). At present, the basic assumption in the calculations is that the density profile is achieved from consolidation experiments conducted with the same consolidation period (Malta, 1986; Metha and Partheniades, 1979). Furthermore, the density is assumed constant throughout the erosion experiment. Therefore, experiments were conducted in order to investigate this assumption. Kaolinite was used in order to obtail time invariant sediment properties during the experiments.
