Abstract
This poster describes a within subject-study of navigation with cognitive mental map based on visualization of sonic echoes in a dark virtual environment (VE). Participants experienced navigation in two conditions: Light (directional lights turned on) and Dark (directional lights switched off). In both conditions participants could send the visualized audio signal, thus in the Dark condition it was the only possible visualized navigational option. The results suggest that participants were able to create a cognitive mental map, for both conditions, and were also able to perform spatial localization and navigation.
