Abstrakt

This paper describes a framework to generate a computationally low-cost decision function to automate emergency landings for drones. Specifically, the function makes a choice of which is the most suitable location to land an unmanned aircraft from a list of candidate ground locations. They are described by a distance metric from the aircraft to the candidate landing location and some safety measure associated to how safe is to land at each location. In addition, the decision function includes the urgency level associated with the current status of the unmanned aircraft and a tuning parameter that models the robustness of the unmanned aircraft. These four parameters are assumed to be given and to have some particular properties, which are described further in the paper. A guideline example on how to determine most of the parameters needed for implementing of the emergency landing decision function developed in this paper in an efficient manner can be found in SafeEYE
