Abstrakt

We live in an era with expanding digital communication, including new kinds of sharing cultures, information storing, and knowledge production. On the one hand, this development supports new solutions for social communication and institutional learning practices in different contexts. The use of multi-modal and multi-media communication, as well as the use of augmented reality or robotics, are but some examples of this. On the other hand, digital challenges also seems to draw the society apart, where small groups can preserve their (sometimes violent) political ideas, or bias political elections, where the idea of information as “fake news” tend to grow, and where new kinds of (algorithmic) control systems over citizens – as consumers – emerge. This book discusses, and demonstrates, these new challenges and possibilities in relation to learning, both in terms of knowledge building and in terms of establishing democratic values and social rules. We have a special focus on emerging teaching and learning practices in digital learning environments.
