Environmental Dispatch Strategies for Onshore Power Systems

Abstract

Decarbonizing issues from ship transportation during visiting a port offer a few alternatives. Among them is the electrification onshore power system known as cold ironing that provides electric power from the shoreside to the visiting ship at port, replacing auxiliary engines-fossil fuel-based. This paper presents four different environmental dispatch strategies for cold ironing system to minimize both cost and environmental impact while meeting seaport operation constraints. The problem formulation was formulated as quadratic constrained programming (QCP) model and solved in GAMS optimization by using the CANOPT solver. The Pareto optimal front from the simulation offers port operators decision-making options that suit their priority objective function. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis for various load values in the optimization model gives insight into any changes in dispatching patterns as the load changes.
