Abstract
This research explores the variables that affect the financial performance of circular economy initiatives. The research use a multiple embedded case study approach within a large Danish OEM, who have established four forms of takeback projects, in three different countries. The researchers identify six variables which affect the financial performance; national salary level, the supply chain design, supply chain capabilities, utilized resource loop, legislation, and motivation. Each of these variables affects the financial performance of the takeback project. In addition, the results further indicate interactions between the identified variables, meaning that one variable might affect another variable positively or negatively.
