Abstract
A new tool joint system is considered. Traditionally these rotary connections have been designed with only one shoulder geometry. However, in order to increase the torque rating of the tool joint, a new design is introduced using two shoulders. This design allow reduced tool joint dimensions whereby downhole equipment more easily can be fitted. In order to evaluate the validity of the design, finite element analysis have been performed in ANSYS. The results obtained indicate that the new design is valid and further tests can be performed.
