Abstract

Fractionation of lemon and bergamot essential oils with supercritical carbon dioxide as a solvent was studied by means of a continuous countercurrent process. Experiments were performed by an isothermal isobaric stripping
column equipped with a high efficiency laboratory gauze packing. The experimental runs showed that a good separation efficiency can be achieved at low temperature (42-43°C) with solvent/feed ratio from 30 to 90 and at
pressure values not very high (around 8.0-8.5 MPa).
