Abstract
This paper describes aspects of the soil investigations and geotechnical evaluations for the foundation design of the 6.6 km long Great Belt West Bridge. The gravity foundations rest predominantly on glacial tills and pre-quaternary limestone. Special investigations for assessment of the soil properties for ship impact and ice
loading are described briefly, and first experiences from settlement monitoring of the structure during erection are presented.
