Impact of Faults and Protection Methods on DC Microgrids Operation

Resumé

Due to development of DC loads and higher efficiency of DC systems, DC Microgrids have become one of the superior power system schemes in the recent years. One of the major challenges on DC Microgrids is protection of them, and it is still a unsolved problem related to the developing challenges, such as, an suitable protection scheme, and lack of adequate standard in the DC Microgrid protection. Due to the considerable growing interest on the DC Microgrid; this paper evaluates the problems associated with the protection and schemes, that need to be considered in the modern power networks equipped with the DC Microgrid. This paper evaluates and presents a comprehensive review on the most recent studies in the DC Microgrids protection. Moreover, the fault behavior and characteristics of DC Microgrids, the effect of Constant Power Load (CPL), and recent DC Microgrid protection methods are reviewed. Also, The advantages and disadvantages between the DC Microgrid protection methods are discussed.
