Abstract
Working with environmentally sustainable architecture today is becoming more and more challenging due to the strict energy demands in the building regulations (Hyde et al. 2007). This demands a design process, where parameters affecting the energy demands are considered from the very beginning, and where relations between the architectural form, the building envelope and the climatic conditions on the site are in focus in order to lower the energy demand in the building during operation. Such a focus on energy consumption is the theme at Architecture & Design's, Aalborg University, 8th semester architecture specialization, where the students work with environmental architecture. A basis for understanding this and for working with different parameters related to this topic is the diagram seen in Figure 1 and 2 (Knudstrup et al. 2009) developed through studies of different tools used in the broad field of definitions within sustainable architecture. The work made in relation to this is based on the Integrated Design Process, where technical parameters are integrated in the architectural design process and through that a synthesis between the architectural ideas and the technical demands are achieved (Knudstrup 2004).
