Abstract

This paper is concerned with laboratory experiments on buoyant surface plumes where heat is the source of buoyancy. Temperature distributions were measured at the water surface using infra-red sensing, and inside the waterbody a computer based measurement system was applied. The plume is described by numerically integrated length scales. Comparisons between depth integrated scales and sales based on surface temperatures are made.
