Abstract

Energy systems are becoming increasingsly complex with many interdependencies between energy sources, various energy transformation technologies, energy carrieers and end-use energy systems. With the present technologies, a certain production on large-scale power plants is thus required to supply ancillary services for grid stability reasons. Increasing amounts of wind power thus require increasing amounts of electricity generation on large-scale power plants. With heat in Denmark being supplied from such plants, heat savings reduce electricity generation on CHP plants and thereby the amount of wind power that may be integrated into the electricity system. However, analyses reveal that even though this is an issue, the fuels savings from heat savings by far exceed the loss in utilisation of wind power.
